If you've subscribed and gone looking for the Apollo Player in the Amazon Appstore or Google Play, you won't find it — that's not a mistake, and it's not because anything's broken. Fire TV and Android devices install the Player through a separate app called Downloader instead. Here's what that actually means.
Downloader and the Apollo Player are two different apps
It's easy to assume they're the same thing, since you install one right after the other. They're not:
- Downloader is a free, third-party sideloading tool made by AFTVnews. It's available on the Amazon Appstore and Google Play, and its only job is to fetch and install other apps using a short code — nothing more. It has no connection to Apollo Group TV.
- The Apollo Player is the actual app you watch on. Downloader installs it once, and after that you never need to open Downloader again — you just launch the Player directly.
Why this extra step exists at all
Fire TV and Android don't require every app to go through their official app stores — sideloading (installing an app from outside the store) is a normal, supported part of both platforms. Downloader exists specifically to make that process simple: instead of transferring an installer file manually, you type a short code and it handles the rest.
How the code actually works
Apollo Group TV publishes a Downloader code on the Player page, entered directly into the Downloader app's address bar (not a search engine, and not a web browser). Downloader looks up that code, fetches the correct Player package for your device, and installs it — no file management, no manual sideloading steps.
The full install sequence:
- Install "Downloader" from the Amazon Appstore or Google Play.
- Open Downloader and enter your code in the address bar, then select Go.
- Downloader fetches the Player package automatically — select Install, then Done.
- Open the Player and sign in with the activation details from your welcome email.
FAQ
Do I need to keep the Downloader app installed afterward? No. Once the Player is installed, Downloader has done its job — you can leave it installed or remove it, either way the Player keeps working on its own.
My code says it's invalid or won't load — what's wrong? The most common cause is typing the code somewhere other than Downloader's address bar, or a spotty internet connection on the device itself. If it still won't load after double-checking both, contact support for a direct install link instead.
Does every device use this same method? No — Downloader is specific to Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, and Android devices. Smart TVs install through their own built-in app store instead, with steps sent in your activation email.
Where do I find the code? It's shown on the Player page, along with the full install walkthrough. See the Firestick install guide or Android TV install guide for the steps specific to your device.
